What's Auto Pager Refinements comment

AutoPager Refinements is powered by Surf Canyon

This is a new feature in AutoPager 0.5.2.2, it adds search suggestion for major search engines. And we'd appreciate any feedback you may have.

AutoPager Refinements is powered by Surf Canyon, please you can find their Privacy Policy at http://search.surfcanyon.com/privacy.

Surf Canyon's real-time search personalisation has gathered much praise from users of their own addon, and from technology reviewers no less prestigious than the Walt Mossberg column, and we were delighted when they approached us with an offer to bring a co-branded version of the functionality to AutoPager users. We're impressed with the Surf Canyon functionality and their attitude to user privacy, and it fits in nicely with our mission to increase the value of the time you spend online, so this seems like a win for all concerned.

This line of AutoPager refinement links is entirely optional. You can turn it off with the little [x] next to the refinements, and turn it back on from the Tools->AutoPager->Options->"Show AutoPager Refinements".

We're very interested in your feedback, particularly if you see a bug or a conflict with another extension. Drop us an email to review@teesoft.info anytime with your thoughts.

I'll probably be turning this feature off unless I decide I like having a quick
link to SurfCanyon. But I was glad to see surfcanyon again after having used
them briefly a few months ago.

However- the feature is a bit difficult to
figure out how to turn off and I was initially upset to realize it was going on
at all. Being sent to a different search engine than Google is kind of a red
flag.

I really didn't like finding links to some site I'd never heard of, attached to
my google searches. As an opt-in sort of thing that would be fine, of
course.

I included autopager as an add-on to do auto-paging. That's all I
wanted it to do, and all I would have ever wanted it to do. Adding it didn't
mean giving you permission to redirect me to whatever search site you happen to
be affiliated with.

Then I had to figure out how to disable it, which could
have been easier.

Then just to tell you I didn't care to have this sort of
thing thrown in there without my approval required creating an account just to
post this.

Kind of obnoxious. And hard to figure out, unless you're getting a
kickback from referrals to surfwhatever for links that list you as the referer.
If you're getting a kickback for those referrals then it's extremely obnoxious,
on a par with tossing in banner ads.

And that's it, isn't it? You don't come

Well, I guess that's it for Auto Pager. Rewriting my google results to send me
to some random 3rd party site? WTF? Maybe if this were an off by default
option, but as standard behavior?

I was a big fan of this addon, but as
dranorter noted this is a huge red flag. Avoid like the plague from now on.

It will not send you to the random 3rd party site. It will send you to a search
result powered by Surf Canyon when you click on the words it suggested.

I basically agree with dranorter here, except that I didn't find it too
difficult to turn the new feature off - I have virtually ignored those links for
a few weeks now, but I don't think that I'd ever need them and also I didn't
expect AutoPager to include anything like this.
Guess I'll try AP Lite as well.

Just writing to say that after discovering this "feature" I will be
removing this addon. I thought I was installing an extension to auto load
paginated websites, not an extension to send my search queries to some random
3rd party without ever asking me if that is alright.

I don't really care why
you added this, or who came up with the bright idea, but I will never use this
software, or its company again. I will also go out of my way to help protect my
friends from these nefarious practices, making sure none of them ever use your
products either.

If you are willing to add code to send my search results off,
and be as bold as to let me see it, what other crap do you have hiding in there
that we can't see?
